8 Killed in Massive Blast at Illegal Firecracker Unit in Ahmedabad

A devastating explosion ripped through an unauthorised firecracker manufacturing unit in Ahmedabad's Vastral locality on Saturday, leaving at least eight people dead and nine others injured. The powerful blast triggered a massive fire, reducing parts of the factory to rubble and prompting an extensive rescue operation.
Officials said the unit, identified as Talent Fireworks, was allegedly operating despite the cancellation of its licence. The force of the explosion was followed by a fierce blaze that quickly spread across the premises, trapping several workers inside.
Emergency teams, including firefighters, police personnel and members of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), rushed to the scene. Rescue workers entered the damaged structure and pulled survivors from the debris before shifting the injured to nearby hospitals. The operation continued for several hours as authorities searched for anyone who might still have been trapped.
Those injured in the incident were admitted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and LG Hospital in Maninagar, where they are receiving treatment. Officials said some victims sustained serious burn injuries, while others were hurt by the impact of the explosion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and announced financial assistance through the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
The Prime Minister announced ₹2 lakh as ex gratia for the next of kin of each deceased victim and ₹50,000 for every injured person.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine what caused the explosion and whether the factory was violating safety regulations while operating without a valid licence. Officials are also expected to examine possible lapses in oversight and fix responsibility for the incident.
