Air India chief forms panel to slash costs after massive FY26 loss

Air India's leadership has established a committee headed by Gebremariam to identify cost reduction opportunities across the airline. The panel will examine options for rationalising teams and reducing office space as the carrier looks to improve its financial position.
The move comes after Air India reported a substantial loss of ₹22,238 crore in the fiscal year 2025-26. The airline has been navigating significant financial headwinds despite being a key player in India's aviation sector.
The cost-cutting initiative reflects efforts by Air India's management to address operational inefficiencies and reduce expenditure across various departments. The committee's findings are expected to guide strategic decisions on workforce management and real estate footprint optimisation.
