Air India trims Europe flights, expands Australia and Japan services

Air India is rejigging its international network, reducing flights to Europe while adding services to Australia and Japan. The airline is responding to operational pressures including a sharp rise in jet fuel prices and the continued closure of Pakistan's airspace, which has forced longer routing and increased costs.
The network changes reflect Air India's strategy to optimize profitability by scaling back on routes with lower yields while investing in high-demand destinations in the Asia-Pacific region. Australia and Japan are seen as lucrative markets with strong passenger demand.
Pakistan's airspace restrictions have significantly impacted Indian carriers' operational efficiency, requiring flights to take longer routes around Pakistani territory, adding fuel consumption and flight time. Combined with volatile jet fuel pricing, these factors have pressured airline margins across the sector.
