Airlines hike fuel surcharges as jet fuel costs rise ahead of festive travel

Air India Group and Akasa Air have announced revised fuel surcharges starting October 9, passing on rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs to passengers during the festive travel season. The move comes after IndiGo raised its fuel levy earlier this week.
The increased surcharges are expected to make air travel more expensive for millions of Indian travellers during the peak festive period, when demand for flights typically peaks. Airlines have cited elevated global crude oil prices and resulting ATF cost increases as the reason for the revision.
The sequential hikes by multiple carriers signal mounting pressure on India's aviation sector amid volatile fuel costs. Passengers booking flights for upcoming holidays can expect higher final ticket prices, adding to their travel expenses during the festive season.
