From Associate to Founder: Ameet Dutta on Building Independent Law Practice

Ameet Dutta, a senior intellectual property lawyer, traces his legal career from studying at Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya Law Faculty in Jabalpur to establishing his own practice, ADP Law Offices. He credits his practical learning during mandatory training and real-world case work for shaping his expertise in IP law, a field that was barely recognized during his law school years.
Dutta worked at leading firms including Anand & Anand, Luthra and Luthra, and Saikrishna & Associates before founding his independent practice. He credits each firm with distinct contributions to his professional development—foundational IP grounding, commercial law exposure, and practice-building skills respectively.
He emphasizes that his decision to establish ADP Law Offices was spontaneous rather than strategically planned, and encourages lawyers in firms to consider starting their own ventures. Dutta highlights the fulfillment of building something from the ground up and believes such experience strengthens the legal profession.
