Ankush Panghal wins gold as India completes boxing hat-trick at Asian Games

Ankush Panghal secured the gold medal in the men's 80kg boxing event at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, defeating South Korea's Kim Minseong in the final. He became the third Indian boxer to win gold at this edition, following Lovlina Borgohain and Parveen Hooda, who both won their medals earlier on Friday.
Panghal's performance was dominant throughout the bout. He claimed the first round 4-1 and continued his strong showing in the second, taking it 5-0 to establish a commanding lead. With time running out in the final, Kim adopted a more aggressive approach in an attempt to force the issue, but Panghal held his nerve to secure the victory, winning the final round 4-1.
The three gold medals in boxing on the same day highlighted the strong performance of India's boxing contingent at the continental championship.
