Assam's human resources key to industrialisation, says Finance Minister

Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said the state's greatest resource for industrialisation is its human resources, positioning it as an attractive investment destination. Addressing the 13th SBI Banking & Economics Conclave in Mumbai, Baruah stated that Assam is expanding beyond tea, petroleum and agriculture into semiconductors, electronics, food processing, tourism, renewable energy and aerospace sectors.
The minister emphasised that the state's industrialisation strategy aims to create employment opportunities for young people within Assam so they can work and earn locally rather than migrating elsewhere. Under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's leadership, the state is strengthening infrastructure, introducing business-friendly reforms and sector-specific policies to facilitate investment.
Baruah highlighted major projects including an approximately Rs 27,000 crore semiconductor facility in Morigaon and a Rs 778 crore PepsiCo investment, which he said would create wider employment and enterprise ecosystems.
