Assam to go fully paperless by January 1, 2027

Assam government has announced January 1, 2027 as the deadline for all state government offices to transition to a paperless office system. The Chief Minister's Office described this as a major expansion of the state's digital governance programme aimed at modernising administrative functioning and improving public service efficiency and transparency.
The state will implement the National Informatics Centre-developed e-Office platform across all government departments. Currently, all 58 departments in the state Secretariat are using the system, with implementation being extended to selected directorates and Deputy Commissioners' offices. The platform enables electronic document receipt, digital file movement, online note preparation, and digital signing and archiving of records.
Assam has been progressively adopting e-Office since 2021 when it established a dedicated state-level steering mechanism. The digital system aims to reduce dependence on physical files while making government functioning more responsive, accountable and transparent.
