Bengaluru's Rs 40 crore bus information system largely non-functional

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation installed passenger information systems at around 500 bus shelters across the city less than three years ago to display bus numbers, routes, destinations and estimated time of arrival. The Rs 40 crore project was undertaken under the Centre's Nirbhaya Scheme to help commuters plan their journeys.
However, many of the LED boards are now non-functional or display incorrect information that does not match actual bus arrivals. Commuters report that boards at several locations, including Shanthinagar, Ragigudda Arch, and 100 Feet Ring Road, either show inaccurate ETAs or remain switched off for extended periods. Several regular users said they have stopped relying on the displays and instead calculate travel times manually.
When contacted, the BMTC declined to respond on whether it would repair or replace the malfunctioning boards.
