Bhopal bureaucratic shuffle: succession battles, tenure tensions emerge

Discussions have begun in Madhya Pradesh bureaucracy about a senior officer's tenure extension following his appointment as head of the state administration. Officers expect the extension will be granted, with uncertainty over whether it will be for six months or one year. An officer retiring next year has begun lobbying in Delhi for the position after the current head's retirement, operating across political, administrative and corporate channels.
A separate standoff involves a senior officer at odds with a former minister and retired officer, both seeking tenure extensions. The senior officer believes their mandated work is complete and opposes extension, while both seek to remain in position. The matter has escalated to higher authorities, who face pressure to balance the former minister's interests with the senior officer's position.
Meanwhile, a minister has expressed concern about a collector posted in his home district, indicating further administrative tensions in the state.
