Bhopal Convention Centre Racks Up ₹12 Crore Repair Bill Just Four Years After Opening

The Ravindra Convention Centre in Bhopal, inaugurated on Republic Day 2022 at a cost of ₹48 crore, has already incurred ₹12 crore in repair expenses. The facility, which houses Madhya Pradesh's largest auditorium with 1,500 seats, was built by the Public Works Department's Project Implementation Unit.
Shortly after opening, the centre began experiencing structural issues. Roof leaks led to rainwater seeping into walls, ceiling panels fell off in multiple areas, and landscaping deteriorated due to poor maintenance. Stone and marble sculptures in the garden lost their condition and had to be relocated to prevent damage.
The project faced significant delays and cost overruns during construction. Originally scheduled for completion by November 2018 at ₹33 crore, it was completed four years late at ₹48 crore. According to sources, ₹6 crore was spent on repairs last year, with an equal amount sanctioned for the current year.
