BJD attacks Odisha govt over tourist safety, cites recent incidents in Puri and Kapilas

The Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday alleged that tourist safety in Odisha has become a serious concern, with incidents of harassment and assault being reported regularly from popular destinations during the two-and-a-half-year tenure of the BJP government.
BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty cited recent incidents at Puri and Kapilas in Dhenkanal district, where tourists faced alleged assault and harassment. He said the recurrence of such incidents reflects a deteriorating law and order situation and could damage Odisha's image as a tourist destination.
Mohanty also referred to a gang-rape allegation at Gopalpur Beach that drew national and international criticism, leading to a US advisory warning its citizens about visiting the state. He claimed similar untoward incidents have occurred at Bali Harachandi, Dhauli and Rayagada.
