BJP Unveils New Uttar Pradesh Team Ahead of Polls; OBC Leaders Get Biggest Share, Women’s Representation Increased

Party Reshapes State Organisation With Focus on Social and Regional Balance
With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections drawing closer, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a new state organisational team that reflects a broad social and regional strategy. The revamped leadership structure places significant emphasis on Other Backward Classes (OBCs), while also strengthening the participation of women and younger leaders.
OBC Leaders Receive Largest Representation
The newly constituted team comprises 64 office-bearers, with OBC leaders emerging as the largest group. A total of 30 members belong to the OBC category, accounting for nearly 47 percent of the organisation.
The General category has 26 representatives, while Scheduled Castes have seven members and Scheduled Tribes are represented by one office-bearer. The composition indicates the party's effort to expand its social outreach while maintaining representation across multiple communities.
Within the General category, Brahmins hold the highest number of positions, followed by Kshatriyas, Bhumihars and Vaishyas. The OBC representation has been distributed across several communities, including Kurmis, Jats, Yadavs, Lodhis, Gurjars, Pals and Shakyas, reflecting an attempt to ensure wider caste participation instead of concentrating leadership within a single group.
Regional Representation Across Uttar Pradesh
The BJP has also focused on balancing representation across different regions of the state. Office-bearers have been selected from all six organisational zones, with Awadh receiving the highest representation, followed by Kashi, while every region has secured a place in the new structure.
The move is being viewed as part of the party's preparations to strengthen its organisational network across Uttar Pradesh ahead of next year's Assembly elections.
Younger Leaders and Women Get Bigger Role
Apart from caste and regional considerations, the new organisational team also signals a shift towards younger leadership. Most of the newly appointed office-bearers are below the age of 50 and include graduates, postgraduates and professionals from diverse educational backgrounds.
Women have also been given greater responsibility in the new team. The organisation now includes 12 women office-bearers, comprising four vice-presidents, one general secretary and seven secretaries.
Election Strategy Begins to Take Shape
Political observers believe the new organisational structure reflects the BJP's attempt to combine its traditional support base with broader social outreach. By balancing caste equations, regional representation, youth leadership and women's participation, the party appears to be laying the groundwork for an aggressive campaign ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
