BMC to complete Mithi River cleanup by 2029 with integrated flood and sewage plan

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will undertake a comprehensive rehabilitation of the Mithi River's Kurla-Mahim stretch by 2029. The project will tackle flooding and sewage discharge simultaneously through multiple infrastructure interventions.
The plan includes installation of 18 gate-pump systems, sewage interception and diversion infrastructure, retaining walls, and service roads along the stretch. The integrated approach aims to address both the flood management and water pollution issues that have long plagued the river.
