Bombay HC overturns acquittal, sentences Tarun Tejpal to 10 years imprisonment

The Bombay High Court has overturned a 2021 acquittal and sentenced Tarun Tejpal to 10 years imprisonment in a sexual assault case. A Goa trial court had previously acquitted the journalist, stating that the complainant "didn't demonstrate normative behaviour" that a sexual assault survivor "might plausibly show."
The High Court's reversal marks a significant development in the case involving allegations against Tejpal by a junior colleague. The court rejected the trial court's reasoning regarding the complainant's conduct as grounds for acquittal.
