Centre allocates 14 lakh tonnes of sugar for October sales ahead of Dussehra

The Centre has allocated 14 lakh tonnes of sugar for sales during October 1-15, ahead of the Dussehra festival period. Mills in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have been allocated 10.77 lakh tonnes, accounting for 83 per cent of the total 13 lakh tonnes allocated across the country. A separate 1 lakh tonne allocation has been set aside for standalone refiners.
The move aims to ensure adequate sugar availability and manage prices during the festive season when demand typically increases.
