Centre singled out Jharkhand over DGP appointment rules, argues Sibal in Supreme Court

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal has argued in the Supreme Court that the Centre has unfairly targeted Jharkhand over its amended rules governing the appointment of the Director General of Police. Sibal contended that several other states have enacted laws comparable to Jharkhand's, yet the Union government has chosen not to challenge those laws.
The submission comes as the Centre's constitutional challenge to Jharkhand's DGP appointment framework remains under the Court's consideration. Sibal's argument underscores an alleged disparity in how the Centre has applied scrutiny across different states on the same issue.
The case touches on the constitutional division of powers between the Union and states regarding senior police appointments, a matter that has drawn judicial attention in recent years.
