Over 2,500 Vinayagar idols immersed across Chennai amid tight security

Approximately 2,500 Vinayagar idols from Chennai, Avadi and Tambaram were immersed at designated sites across the region on Sunday without major incidents. In Chennai City Police limits, around 1,200 idols were taken in procession and immersed at Neelangarai, Pattinapakkam, Tiruvottiyur and Kasimedu. At Tondiarpet, members of the Burma Tamil Jamaath and the Muslim community jointly led a procession before immersion.
Over 1,600 police personnel were deployed across Avadi and surrounding areas for security. In Avadi City Police limits alone, 788 idols were immersed at Pulicat, Ennore Ramakrishna Nagar and Kattupalli, while 500 idols were immersed in Tambaram police limits. Traffic congestion occurred at some locations, particularly on Loop Road in Pattinapakkam where vehicle queues formed. Later in the evening, a brief clash erupted between two groups waiting to immerse idols at Pattinapakkam, with participants wielding bamboo poles before dispersing.
