Dairy farming can transform Nagaland's economy, says opinion piece

An opinion piece argues that dairy farming holds significant potential to transform Nagaland's socio-economic landscape by generating employment, strengthening food security, and promoting organic farming practices.
The article contends that when local farmers personally manage dairy operations—from breeding to marketing—they retain full profit margins rather than relying on outside hired labour. Currently, economic benefits flow out of the state through external milk marketing control, the piece claims.
It suggests Nagaland adopt cooperative models similar to Amul in Gujarat and Mother Dairy in Delhi. The piece recommends forming village-level dairy cooperative societies under Nagaland State Dairy Co-operative Federation Ltd. (NSDCF) to ensure fair pricing, create regional brands, and encourage collective participation among farmers.
