Pregnant woman, 2 children killed in Delhi building collapse

A four-storey building collapsed in Northeast Delhi's New Seemapuri on Wednesday afternoon, killing a pregnant woman and two children, with eight others injured including a three-year-old. The deceased pregnant woman, Gulfisha (22), who was four months pregnant, had been walking through E Block with her four-year-old daughter Zoya when the structure came down around 3.10 pm. The identities of the two deceased children, one aged 12, had not been established by Wednesday evening.
According to Delhi Police, the building measured 225 square feet and stood near the Idgah Machhli Mandi area in a densely packed locality next to a mosque. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi described it as a ground-plus-three-floor structure located on about 25 square yards of DUSIB land, approximately 20-25 years old and occupied. On Tuesday evening, when Delhi experienced earthquake tremors, the building had developed cracks, officials said. Four fire tenders were rushed to the collapse site, and residents immediately began pulling people from the rubble and transporting them to hospitals.
DCP R P Meena stated that some people had been rescued and hospitalized, but authorities suspected two to three people remained trapped under the debris. "They are talking... rescue operation is underway," the officer said, indicating ongoing rescue efforts at the site.
