Building collapse in Delhi's Seemapuri; rescue operations underway

A five-storey building collapsed in Northeast Delhi's Seemapuri area on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m., resulting in at least three deaths and eight injuries, including a three-year-old child. The deceased included a minor, according to reports. Four fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the location, which is situated behind a fish market.
Rescue and relief operations commenced immediately following the collapse. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rajendra Prasad Meena reported that some people had been rescued and sent to hospitals, while two to three individuals were suspected to be trapped under the debris. Local residents assisted in the initial rescue efforts, with some evacuees being transported to hospitals by residents before police arrival. According to witnesses, a child remained trapped at the site as rescue operations continued.
Locals claimed the building had developed cracks following tremors experienced in the Delhi-NCR region due to an earthquake in Uttarakhand on Tuesday night. However, officials stated that the actual cause of the collapse would be determined following a formal investigation. The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory regarding traffic disruptions around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura, and adjoining roads, urging the public to avoid the area.
