Delhi HC Upholds 30-Year Age Limit For MCD Primary Teacher Recruitment

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition seeking 10 years' age relaxation for appointment as a Primary Teacher in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). A Division Bench of Justice Anil Khetarpal and Justice Bharat Parashar upheld the Central Administrative Tribunal's order, ruling that age-relaxation notifications applicable to Delhi government schools cannot be automatically extended to MCD recruitment governed by separate rules.
The petitioner, Poonam Patwal, had cited a 1980 notification providing 10-year relaxation for women candidates in Directorate of Education posts. However, the court held that MCD's Recruitment Rules prescribe a 30-year upper age limit for direct recruitment, which DSSSB's 2018 advertisement maintained. The petitioner, a Guest Teacher since 2012, was unable to meet the stricter MCD criteria despite prior relaxation rules.
