Delhi police add attempt-to-murder charges in Jantar Mantar assault case

Delhi police have upgraded the FIR in the Jantar Mantar assault case to include attempt-to-murder and SC/ST Act charges against accused Swatantra Bhardwaj. The move came after hours of dialogue with student activist Nishu Aazad and members of the Centre for Participatory Research and Development (CJP), who protested at Parliament Street police station.

Aazad's father, Sanjay Kumar, was allegedly assaulted during a protest at Jantar Mantar. Following the escalated charges, police assured that Bhardwaj's arrest would be completed within 72 hours. The case has drawn attention from civil society groups advocating for stronger action.
