Delhi traders appeal to PM Modi over protest losses, demand compensation
Delhi traders have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking compensation for losses incurred following a protest on October 10. The traders urged authorities to conduct a transparent assessment of the damage suffered by shopkeepers and recover the full amount from the principal organisers and participants responsible for the demonstration.
The traders argued that placing the financial burden on them would be unjust, as shop earnings support their families and employees. They highlighted that revenue from their businesses covers essential expenses including shop rents, children's education and medical care for elderly parents.
The appeal reflects the economic hardship faced by Delhi's retail sector following the disruptive protest, with traders seeking accountability from organisers rather than absorbing losses themselves.
