Delhi to Install 1 Lakh Smart Street Lights for Women's Safety and Cost Savings

Delhi is set to install one lakh smart street lights across the capital as part of an initiative to improve women's safety and achieve significant fiscal savings. The project targets an annual cost reduction of Rs 100 crore through energy efficiency and reduced maintenance expenditure.
The smart street lights are designed with advanced features to enhance visibility in public spaces, particularly in areas frequented by women during evening and night hours. The technology is expected to reduce power consumption compared to conventional street lighting systems.
The deployment of these lights forms part of Delhi's broader urban infrastructure modernisation drive. Officials stated the initiative addresses dual objectives: strengthening public safety mechanisms while optimising municipal spending on street lighting maintenance and operations.
