Dimapur DPDB seeks stricter regulations on mushrooming unions and associations

The District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) in Dimapur discussed the proliferation of unions and associations in various localities that are collecting fees and charges from businesses. Members expressed concern over potential misuse of registration provisions and called for clearer, stricter regulations to protect public interest.
The Board recommended periodic renewal and verification of registered societies. It was suggested that the Home Department issue uniform guidelines and checklists for district administrations to follow standard procedures during application processing. Members stressed that genuine organisations should not face denial due to activities of others, while emphasising the need for stricter scrutiny and monitoring.
The DPDB resolved to recommend to the Home Department that organisations seeking registration in areas connected with specific departments should obtain a No Objection Certificate from the concerned department to prevent duplication and ensure proper coordination.
