Damaged footpaths and open drains create safety hazard for Dimapur pedestrians

Poorly maintained footpaths and open drains across several areas of Dimapur are creating safety hazards for pedestrians, with reported incidents of people falling through damaged sections. The problem spans multiple locations including Nyamo Lotha road, Tajen Ao road, Kalibari, Notun Bosti and Clock Tower area, where drain covers and concrete slabs have broken, shifted or gone missing.
Clogged drainage channels, accumulated dirt, stagnant water and overgrown vegetation have worsened the situation. In some areas, pedestrians are forced to abandon footpaths and walk closer to traffic-bearing roads, raising injury risks particularly for elderly residents and those walking during early morning or evening hours.
Residents have urged authorities to undertake immediate drain cleaning, desilting, weed removal, and replacement of broken slabs. They have called for regular inspection and maintenance of drainage and pedestrian infrastructure along busy roads.
