Dorothy challenges Tamil cinema's traditional masculinity norms

Karthik Subbaraj's tenth directorial venture, Dorothy, is set in 1990s Madurai and follows the journey of two friends navigating caste-based violence and entrenched ideas of masculinity. The film marks a departure from conventional portrayals of manhood in Tamil cinema.
With music composed by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja, the film attempts to deconstruct rigid gender norms that have long defined the industry's narrative approach.
