Doyang landowners issue ultimatum to NEEPCO over unfulfilled commitments

The Land Owners' Union (LOU) of Doyang Hydro Power Station in Wokha has served a final ultimatum on North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) Ltd, demanding action by October 1, 2026. The union cited repeated failures to implement longstanding commitments made to land-affected communities regarding livelihood, employment and development.
Key demands include a special Grade-IV recruitment drive under the 1984 agreement, appointment of local security guards, and recruitment of local candidates for teaching positions at the project's school. The union also seeks Grade III examination for engineering posts to be held at Doyang with preference for land-affected candidates, relocation of finance and accounts operations, and additional infrastructure funds for 2026-27.
If demands are unmet by the deadline, LOU warned of indefinite sit-ins and peaceful disruption of project operations. The union stated NEEPCO would bear responsibility for any resulting operational delays or losses.
