Delhi University plans portal to monitor PG accommodations following Satya Niketan collapse

Delhi University has announced plans to develop a portal to monitor students residing in private paying guest accommodations across the city. The initiative follows the tragic collapse of a building at Satya Niketan, a major student housing hub in South Delhi.
The database will compile information on student rentals, including accommodation details and rental costs. University officials aim to use this repository to coordinate with relevant authorities, particularly the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, on safety and regulatory compliance matters.
The move reflects heightened concern over student safety in informal housing sectors. The portal is expected to enable better oversight of private accommodation standards and facilitate communication between the university and civic bodies responsible for building safety and maintenance.
