England recovering from World Cup semifinal heartbreak: Tuchel

England manager Thomas Tuchel said his side is beginning to recover from the heartbreak of losing a FIFA World Cup semifinal to Argentina. Tuchel's team came within minutes of qualifying for its first World Cup final since 1966 after taking the lead against Argentina, but conceded twice in the final five minutes to suffer defeat. The loss marked a devastating end to England's tournament campaign.
Despite the World Cup disappointment, England showed signs of moving forward with strong performances in subsequent matches. After suffering a 2-3 defeat to Spain in its first match following the semifinal, England produced a vibrant attacking display against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League, winning 7-0 on Saturday. Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka both scored braces, while Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon, and Morgan Rogers also found the net.
Tuchel acknowledged the lingering pain while emphasizing the importance of progressing forward. "I've said many times, we will always have a scar, we will always feel pain and disappointment," he said after the Croatia match. "This is the way to move forward." He noted that the team adjusted tactically after the World Cup and has been executing the game plan consistently across recent matches. "It was not an easy camp in the beginning after this long tournament for multiple reasons. But it was excellent from the first training session," Tuchel added, praising the dominant performance against Croatia as evidence of the team's forward momentum.
