Ernakulam Water Metro Terminal Expected to Open by 2027

The Ernakulam water metro terminal, being built near the Ernakulam boat jetty, is expected to be completed within a year and operational by 2027. It will be the second-largest terminal on the Kochi Water Metro network after the High Court terminal, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 32 crore.
The terminal will span 18,000 sq ft across two floors, with the ground floor dedicated to commercial activities. It will serve major nearby institutions including educational colleges, government offices, courts, and hospitals. Once operational, it will provide direct water metro services to Mattanchery, Fort Kochi, Kumbalam, and Edakochi. The structure will be supported by 72 piles reaching depths of 45 metres, designed in traditional Kerala architectural style.
Piling work began on September 8 under contractor Kool Home Builders, with KITCO as design consultant. The terminal will feature two floating jetties, with charging points and fuelling stations for boats.
