27% ethanol blending may expose sugar sector's operational challenges, says expert

Scaling ethanol blending to 27 per cent presents significant operational challenges for India's sugar sector, according to Anand Mahurkar, founder and CEO of Findability Sciences.
Mahurkar highlighted that moving beyond current blending levels is not merely a technical issue but fundamentally an operations problem. The transition would require substantial changes in how the sugar industry manages production, supply chains, and quality control to meet the higher ethanol concentration requirements.
The expert's assessment points to potential vulnerabilities in the sector's existing infrastructure and processes that may need to be addressed before such higher blending mandates can be effectively implemented across the country.
