Fort Kochi to get QR code system for heritage site information

The Ernakulam District Tourism Promotion Council is developing a project to install QR codes at heritage sites in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry. The system will provide tourists with historical information about buildings, streets and localities accessible via mobile phones without requiring a guide.
Under the proposal, all heritage sites including Fort Kochi streets will be mapped and equipped with QR codes. Information will cover locations already catalogued under the GPS project implemented by the Greater Cochin Development Authority. Scanning a QR code, for instance near St Francis Church, will display the site's historical details.
The project, currently in its initial stage, aims to address the current gap where tourists rely on locals or guides for information. Members of the tourism industry have welcomed the initiative.
