September IPO boom attracts $1 billion FPI inflows amid record stock selloffs
Foreign Portfolio Investors pumped $1 billion into Indian primary markets during September, signalling strong appetite for new listings even as they offloaded equities from secondary markets.
Simultaneously, FPIs sold $4.8 billion worth of shares in already-listed companies, marking record outflows. The divergence reflects investors' selective interest in fresh offerings over existing holdings. So far in 2026, 96 IPOs have launched, with 34 occurring in September alone, indicating a busy primary market season.
Market observers suggest the anticipated Jio Platforms IPO could further shape upcoming primary market dynamics and investor participation patterns.
