Professor Appointments Stalled at GMC Bhopal's Super-Speciality Units

Professor appointments for the proposed neonatal neurology and cardiac super-speciality units at Hamidia Hospital, attached to Gandhi Medical College (GMC) in Bhopal, remain pending amid recruitment hurdles. The government had announced these units as part of plans to expand the facility into a 3,000-bed hospital.
The Directorate of Medical Education imposed a ban after the MP Medical Teachers Association protested direct recruitment of associate professors and professors. The High Court subsequently set aside the recruitment process, ruling that the conversion of promotional posts into direct recruitment was "patently illegal" and that college management failed to follow statutory rules requiring such specialised posts to be filled through promotional assessments rather than direct hiring.
Appointments for other departments have continued, but none have been initiated for the super-specialities. The Medical Teachers Association president stated the process is in final stages and an announcement will come soon, while the ban on direct recruitment for associate and professor-level positions in super-specialities remains in place.
