Goa's psychiatric institute struggles to discharge patients due to lack of rehabilitation facilities

Goa's primary psychiatric treatment institute faces a significant challenge in patient care: while it successfully provides psychiatric treatment, it lacks adequate rehabilitation facilities and community support infrastructure to discharge recovered patients.
The absence of follow-up centres and rehabilitation options means patients who complete their psychiatric treatment remain institutionalised or have nowhere to transition to after recovery. This gap in the healthcare ecosystem hampers the institute's capacity to serve new patients requiring admission.
The issue highlights a critical gap in Goa's mental health infrastructure between acute care delivery and long-term community-based rehabilitation services.
