Government Seeks to Expand Services Production Index Coverage

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has begun compiling the Index of Services Production on a monthly basis for the formal services sector on a trial basis since July 2026. The exercise uses 2024-25 as the base year and aims to provide higher-frequency measurement of services-sector performance.

The government is now seeking feedback to expand the coverage of the index. The initiative is designed to offer more granular and timely data on services-sector trends, which accounts for a significant portion of India's economic output.
