Harish Rao criticises Telangana power tariff hike, warns against privatisation

BRS leader K. Harish Rao has criticised the reported increase in electricity charges in Telangana, arguing that consumers need relief during the festive season rather than additional burden. He expressed concern over the timing of the tariff hike, which he said would affect households across the state.
Harish Rao also opposed moves to dilute TG-Transco's ownership stake. He alleged that the Congress government is planning to privatise major power sector entities including TG-Transco, TG-Genco, Singareni and distribution companies. The BRS leader contended that such privatisation would harm the state's power sector and consumers' interests.
The opposition leader's comments reflect growing political friction over energy policy in Telangana as the state government pursues reforms in its power infrastructure.
