Passport surrender as bail condition not permanent bar to renewal, says HC

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has clarified that requiring a passport to be surrendered as a bail condition does not amount to a permanent embargo against its renewal.
The court stated that the right to possess a passport and travel abroad forms part of personal liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution, though it remains subject to restrictions imposed by a court.
The judgment addresses the scope of bail conditions and the limitations they impose on an individual's fundamental rights, balancing state interests with constitutional protections.
