Thierry Henry criticises Cristiano Ronaldo's movement in Portugal's World Cup draw

France legend Thierry Henry analysed Portugal's 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener, criticising Cristiano Ronaldo's positioning on the field. Henry pointed to a second-half moment where Ronaldo ran into the path of midfielder Bruno Fernandes, blocking a potential chance.
Henry stated that Ronaldo should prioritise team goals over personal scoring. "The team needs to score, not you need to score. Because he wants to score, he goes into the path of Bruno Fernandes," Henry said on Fox Sports. He highlighted that Fernandes had space near the penalty area and could have found a better scoring opportunity if Ronaldo had not interfered with the play.
Henry contrasted Ronaldo's approach with that of Lionel Messi, noting the clear difference in how the two players operate within their teams' tactics and movement patterns.
