High Court seeks compliance report on Supreme Court arrest notice rules

The High Court has directed Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to submit compliance reports on a 2022 Supreme Court ruling that mandates police to follow a fixed procedure before making arrests in cases carrying sentences up to seven years.
The top court's 2022 judgment requires law enforcement agencies to issue arrest notices and observe specific protocols prior to detention in such cases. The High Court's directive seeks to ensure these procedural safeguards are being properly implemented across the three jurisdictions.
