Hyderabad Water Board fines five consumers in Jubilee Hills for water wastage

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) carried out unannounced inspections in Jubilee Hills on Monday morning during water supply hours, identifying five consumers for wasting drinking water. Officials distributed awareness pamphlets detailing how much water is lost through routine household activities.
The Board imposed fines ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹20,000 based on the severity of violations. Officials have been directed to intensify similar surprise checks during supply periods. The Board stated the penalties aim to deter wastage rather than generate revenue and appealed to consumers to use water responsibly.
The HMWSSB is also strengthening its infrastructure to reduce leakages across its 15,000-km pipeline network. Officials must respond to reported leakages and complete repairs within 24 hours, with accountability measures for non-compliance. Areas with recurring leakages will be studied to implement permanent solutions instead of temporary fixes.
