Global airline body opposes Mumbai airport's plan to cut international capacity

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has cautioned against unilateral capacity reductions at Mumbai airport without stakeholder consultation. Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), which operates the facility, had requested a reduction of approximately 33% in international departure slots effective October 25.
IATA emphasized the need for dialogue between the airport operator, airlines, and other stakeholders before implementing such cuts. The move is linked to MIAL's broader plan to shift operations to the new Navi Mumbai airport, which is currently under development.
The global airline body's intervention reflects industry concerns about service disruptions and operational challenges that could arise from the proposed capacity reduction.
