IMF endorses India's revised GDP data methodology

India's 7.8% GDP growth figure has sparked political controversy, with a former finance secretary questioning the underlying data methodology. The International Monetary Fund, however, has endorsed India's statistical reforms, stating that the newly updated Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and Producer Price Index (PPI) series should enhance the accuracy of GDP estimates.
The IMF's support comes as India continues to refine its economic measurement frameworks to align with international standards and provide more reliable economic indicators for policymaking and analysis.
