India bloc to protest Odisha mining law with Assembly 'gherao' on September 29

India bloc parties have announced a 'gherao' (siege) of the Odisha Assembly on September 29 to protest against a new mining law introduced by the Centre. The opposition claims that mineral-rich states like Odisha face substantial revenue losses under the new framework.
According to the alliance, the Centre's policy prevents states from recovering previously uncollected taxes, cess and arrears, resulting in losses running into lakhs of crores of rupees. The protests are expected to intensify pressure on both the state and central governments over the contentious mining legislation.
