India caps sugar stock holding to 15 days for dealers to prevent hoarding before festivals
The government has introduced fresh regulations to curb sugar hoarding ahead of the festival season. From October 15, sugar dealers across India will be restricted to holding a maximum of 1,000 quintals, with stocks permitted for only 15 days. Kolkata and Assam have been granted higher limits of 2,000 quintals each to address regional demand patterns.
Authorities expect retail sugar prices to moderate further as ex-mill prices stabilize under the new framework. The measure aims to ensure steady supply and prevent artificial price spikes during the festive period.
