India's diesel exports surge to 12-month high in September amid global refining disruptions

India's diesel exports reached their highest level in 12 months during September, capitalizing on significant disruptions in global refining capacity. According to traders, geopolitical tensions in West Asia and repeated drone attacks on Russian refineries have taken approximately 8 million barrels per day of global refining capacity offline.
The reduction in competing supply from major refining hubs has created favourable conditions for Indian refineries to increase their export volumes. India, a major exporter of petroleum products, has benefited from the supply constraints affecting other key producers.
The surge reflects how regional conflicts and military escalations can reshape global energy trade flows, with Indian refiners positioning themselves to meet international demand amid the supply shortage. Industry observers note that such geopolitical disruptions typically create temporary windows of opportunity for exporters in stable regions.
