India's edible oil imports rise 3.27% in Apr-Feb period on increased palm oil inflows

India's edible oil imports increased by 3.27% during the first eleven months of the oil year 2025-26 compared to the corresponding period of the previous oil year. The country imported 151.64 lakh tonnes of edible oil between April 2025 and February 2026, up from 146.83 lakh tonnes in the same period of 2024-25.
The rise in imports was primarily driven by higher shipments of palm oil, which forms a significant portion of India's edible oil imports. Palm oil remains a key component of India's cooking oil basket and industrial uses.
India remains one of the world's largest importers of edible oils, dependent on overseas supplies to meet domestic demand. The commodity is essential for both household consumption and food processing industries.
