India Expanding Trade Pacts to Strengthen Global Ties and Support MSMEs: Piyush Goyal
India is broadening its network of free trade agreements to deepen integration with global economies, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said. The country has concluded nine trade pacts covering 38 developed economies over the past four and a half years.
Goyal said the trade agreements go beyond bureaucratic processes and involve extensive consultations with various stakeholders. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening India's global trade footprint and empowering micro, small and medium enterprises.
The government is currently finalizing trade deals with Canada and the UK. India is also pursuing energy agreements with the Gulf Cooperation Council and expanding trade relations across West Asia and the Americas.
